If you have a Nintendo Wii, you know the song. Nintendo has a long history of unforgettable game soundtracks, and the Mii Channel song is no different. Lounge-y and absurdly catchy, it’s almost as if Kazumi Totaka composed it to be the soundtrack of your daydreams. The Mii Channel song’s catchiness manifests itself in the many cover versions of the song. A quick trip to YouTube will reveal jazz, trap, saxophone, and guitar covers, as well as this hilarious dance that I watch roughly once a week. Each of the previously mentioned covers are fun in their own ways, but the best one I’ve seen to date is this incredible ska cover:
I don’t know what it is about the Mii Channel song that makes people want to cover it, but as long as it inspires videos like this, I say keep them coming! What more could you want?! It’s got clever editing, humor, wicked trombone riffs, awkward dance moves, and a wardrobe that would make Reel Big Fish a little jealous. The mastermind of this gem is Jeremy Hunter (aka The Quizzstar Killa), who teaches marching band when he’s not making smile-inducing ska covers. In addition to the Mii Channel ska cover, his YouTube channel, Ska Tune Network has covers of the Rick and Morty theme and the Mos Eisley cantina song (you know, the one from Star Wars). I know what I’m going to be doing for the rest of the night. I suggest you do the same. It’s ok, nobody’s going to judge you. Ska deserves a comeback in 2018, and Ska Tune Network is helping the cause.
