Spotlight: Falling Into Me by Let’s Eat Grandma

Let’s Eat Grandma is warming up, in songwriting and in sound. Jenny Hollingworth and Rosa Walton’s first LP, I, Gemini was dominated by tinny, meandering psychedlia. With their most recent single, “Falling Into Me,” they move toward a more full-bodied sound, a trend kicked off by their first single “Hot Pink” (co-produced by Scottish DJ and synth master, SOPHIE). The foggy mirror has been wiped clean, revealing an urgent, danceable track about finding confidence. Pulsating synthesizers and skittering drums create a sense of propulsion that abruptly stops, yielding the floor to arpeggiated acoustic guitar, which builds into yet another stomping dance sequence. It’s a dynamic and self-assured track; every change of pace feels just right. “There is no reason to doubt myself here,” they sing, because “it’s so crystal clear.” That sentiment sums up “Falling Into Me” and dovetails perfectly with the theme of their forthcoming album, I’m All Ears, which they say is about their experiences over the last two years. In that time, the Norwich, UK teens have weathered GCSE exams, college, and the reaction to their first studio album. It’s been a formative time for Let’s Eat Grandma, and based on the confidence Hollingworth and Walton exude on “Falling Into Me,” they’ve taken it all in stride.
